ALUMNI DAYS
Spirit Reins is excited to announce our newest program, Great Strides!
Great Strides is an equine-assisted group therapy program for youth and teens, ages 12 to 18, led by a licensed mental health professional and an equine specialist. Our program offers a safe place for youth and teens who have experienced trauma to process and learn to regulate their emotions while gaining healthy coping skills. Meetings take place in an outdoor setting on a 125-acre horse ranch.
Working with the horses offers a unique opportunity that helps youth feel present and more willing to build trust and open up as they improve their ability to build relationships. The Great Strides experience can also improve executive functioning skills needed to facilitate planning and achieving goals. These skills include adaptable thinking, self-monitoring, and task initiation.
** Please note that this is not a horseback riding program.
STRUCTURE

Maximum group size: 6 clients

GREAT STRIDES CAREGIVER SUPPORT CIRCLE
A unique component of our Great Strides program is our Caregiver Support Circle, offered at the same time as the adolescent therapy group. Caregivers are strongly encouraged to attend the Caregiver Support Circle as a way to enhance the overall effectiveness of the program for their child. The Support Circle offers an opportunity to develop a shared language from the ranch and working with the horses that can be very effective in relationship building.
Additionally, participating in the Support Circle offers the opportunity to:
-
Build a network of peer support
-
Practice self-care and learn regulation tools to use at home
